Sometimes those “it’s 3:15 AM and I’m wide awake” mornings turn out to be good.
During chemo, my wake up time is usually 3:00-4:00AM.
But normally I sleep good!
This morning 3:15...wide awake. Uggg.
So I started thinking (danger...lol). Then I started thinking about Relay for Life. So I got really excited and decided it was a perfect time to register the team!!
So, “The Yellow Ribbons” team is registered and ready to go!! Each and every one of you are invited and encouraged to join!!!
Our family has been doing Relay since 2000. (Except for last year, unfortunately, we were not able to do it last year 😢.)
I remember the first time we walked the track. My friend, Karen, turned my name in as a survivor. I received an invitation to come as a survivor. We had no idea what Relay was, but I felt so honored and blessed to be a “survivor” that we decided to go. The whole family loaded up and went out to Long View Lake and walked our first Relay. And just like that, we were hooked!! Relay for life has been a part of our family ever since!!
I remember our granddaughter , Hannah, (aka, Hannie) was only 6 weeks old and did her first of many laps in her stroller!!
The following year we became a team and, as they say, the rest is history!!
So many wonderful memories since then.
In 2003, The American Cancer Society asked us all to name our teams. By this time our son, Jason, was in the US Army and deployed to Iraq. So we decided, in honor of Jason and all the other military men and women....our team would be “The Yellow Ribbons.” We have always been a very patriotic team. Each year Relay has a theme. No matter what the theme is, we always add red, white and blue and beautiful American flags to our tent decorations.
Relay for Life is part of American Cancer Society, raising money for cancer research. I’m always so happy and proud to be a part of it.
I always remember, our daughter said, “What if the money we raise happens to be part of the research that finds a cure!” Wow what an exciting thought!!
We have all been touched by the monster of cancer. Now is the time to fight back!! And have a fun time with lots of friends and lots and lots of food, too!!
Also, another exciting part is that Relay this year is being held at the Kansas City Speedway!! Wow, talk about big time!!
Relay for Life will be June 22, 2019
6:00PM - Midnight
I hope you will seriously consider joining our team to help raise money and fight cancer.

Ter and I were just looking at the calendar. I thought I would be finished with chemo by then, but actually I won’t be. Pooey.
But either way the Yellow Ribbons will be there... walking for a cure!!
Have a great day! 😘
